laminated Curved safety glass

STADIP® CONTOUR®

STADIP CONTOUR is a  curved laminated multi-layer safety glass which comprises of two or more sheets of glass bonded together with one or more durable interlayers of plastic film, such as PVB (polyvinyl butyral). It provides the mechanical characteristics of STADIP flat lamineted safety glass, however currently no European standard applies. Laminated glasses with different levels of safety and security can be obtained by varying the number and/or thickness of each of the components. Conventional STADIP consists of float glass but it can also be produced from many other types of annealed, heat-strengthened or tempered glass.  A laminated glass unit provides a significantly increased security for the user compared to conventional single-pane (safety) glass. If the glass breaks, the fragments are usually held in place by the interlayer(s), preventing the user from falling or from being injured by the shards. In fully framed installations the broken glass retains a residual strength while awaiting replacement.

Performance

Often contemporary glazing requires the use of laminated glass for safety or security reasons. STADIP CONTOUR is the contemporary solution to enter a whole new world of design possibilities for architecture and interior design while providing the safety and security need. If the bent glass breaks, the fragments of the glass remain bonded to the interlayer, just as it is the case for flat laminated glass too. This safety feature, which is often even mandatory in public buildings and office buildings, is also ideal for residential buildings, where it protects the occupant against accidental injury or violence and the property against burglary. STADIP is the perfect fit, as it can be used in many different configurations for a large variety of applications providing the following outstanding features:

  • Guarding and balustrading
  • Protection against noise
  • Protection against UV light
  • Protection against injury
  • Protection against vandalism and burglary
  • Protection against firearms
  • Protection against explosions

Manufacture

The lamination of curved glass sheets is the most common process to manufacture curved multi-layer safety glass. Depending on the product features of the glass (annealed, heat-strengthened or fully tempered) and the desired application, the manufacturing processes differ significantly one from another. Each method may include two or more glass lites of equal or unequal thickness and one or more interlayers of plastic film (with a nominal thickness of 0.38 mm) but differ in terms of glass cutting, finishing and lamination. Contact us for detailed information.

To assure the highest quality possible, STADIP CONTOUR curved laminated glass is subject to continuous process monitoring and quality control.

Types of glass

If no other information is given as to the type of glass used for producing STADIP CONTOUR, the base product is assumed to be clear float glass. Additionally, many other glass products can be laminated depending on the application.

Available in a laminated version:

  • float glass
  • etched glass
  • low-iron glass
  • tinted glass
  • anti-reflection glass
  • patterned glass
  • screen printed glass
  • enamelled glass
  • thermal insulation (low-emissivity) glass and
  • solar control glass (soft coating and hard coating).

Other glass types are available on request.

Dimensions and radius

The maximum size of laminated glass depends on the type of glass, the number of glass sheets and the number of interlayers used. STADIP consiting of two or more panes of fully tempered or heat-strengthened glass is available in following dimensions:

Dimensions for a minimum radius of 500 mm

  • Thickness:  4-12 mm
  • Maximum size:  1300 x 2400 mm
  • Minimum size:  400 x 400 mm
  • Aspect ratio:  1:20

Dimensions for a minimum radius of 1000 mm

  •  Thickness:  6 -19 mm
  • Maximum size:  2440 x 3600   mm
  • Minimum size:  500 x 500 mm
  • Aspect ratio:  1:20

Other dimensions and radii are available on request.

Finishing

Heat treatment

Each individual glass sheet of STADIP CONTOUR curved laminated glass is heat-strengthened or fully toughened. The heat treatment must be performed before laminating.

Edge working

Edgeworked before assembly, providing the unit comprises any toughened or heat-strengthened components. The following standard edgework can be performed:

  • arrised edges
  • ground edges
  • polished edges

If not ordered differently, rectangular sheets of STADIP CONTOUR, comprising fully tempered or heat strengthened glass,  are manufactured with arrissed edges. Drilled holes have a ground edge finish as standard. Larger apertures can be smoothed or polished. Other edge working is available on request.

Drilling

STADIP CONTOUR can be drilled and notched. The individual components are best processed prior to laminating where practical. The glass thickness refers to each individual sheet of the laminated glas.

  • Up to 12 mm Glass thickness the hole diameter must not be less than the glass thickness.
  • For a glass thickness of 15 mm and more the hole diameter must be at least 30 - 40 mm.

Restrictions for the positioning of holes apply.

Additional processing capabilities

STADIP CONTOUR can be assembled into double- and triple- glazed units (see also CLIMAPLUS CONTOUR and CLIMATOP CONTOUR).

For more details see also SECURIT CONTOUR. Other finishings are available on request.
